Apologies, got tied up with other stuff and didn't get a chance to come back on this one…
No, I haven't seen those markup issues before. I still think that a javascript conflict is the problem (somewhere) but, being a localhost issue, impossible for me to take a closer look.
(PS: I removed some of the earlier code you posted – it was screwing up the formatting in this thread.)

thanks for the response. I had to abandon it because of the issues. But I did determine that Wordpress was actually adding all those paragraphs ad line breaks. I was shocked! It's completely unacceptable. luckily, there's a plugin to shut off the wordpress formatting. You've never run into an issue with WP adding formatting?
When I get to revisit the project, I'll undoubtedly give it an onother try.

Sorry we couldn't find the issue.
Yes – WP's wpautop function can be a pain sometimes, which is why I've disabled it on this site. Having said that, I've never had the problems you were experiencing.
Anyway, let's hope things go better when you re-visit this. :-)
