DCG 3.3 appears to be less customizable?

After updating to DCG 3.3.1 from 3.2.3, it seems to me that the gallery has become less customizable, particularly the slide pane. The drop down menu for the slide pane position (top/bottom) seems to have been dropped from the admin, the slide pane height is no longer customizable for the jQuery version. Also the majority of the former CSS classes such as .panel, .overlay-title and .panel-overlay have been removed, making the DCG much less customizable from my point of view.

This is what I have now, using DCG 3.2.3:

I very much would appreciate upgrading to the newest version since I like the tabbed admin interface and added features, but I don't see how the current look of the gallery in my WP site could be reproduced using the new version…

Thanks at this point for this really great WP plugin!

Best regards, Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the nice comments.

DCG 3.3 introduces a new jQuery script which means that yes, many of the CSS classes/ID's have changed. It is also the case that the new script only permits the slide pane to be at the bottom of the gallery. The new script is also compatible with jQuery 1.4 (supplied with WP 3.0+), whereas the old script wasn't.

As for customising, you can still use CSS to control various things, just as before. What are you trying to change exactly?

Hi, thanks for your reply and the changes you've made in the meantime. The new version looks better already, especially with the arrows option now being customizable.

I actually think I will get sorted things out, I have two questions at this point…

a) Will the CSS classes and selectors stay basically the same in future versions? It would help if the CSS work wouldn't have to be redone with every other release Smile

b) Cufon font replacement doesn't seem applicable anymore, no matter what I try to get the headlines to change its appearance… even a general replacement of all h3 tags won't do the trick…

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

The CSS classes only changed because I replaced the old jQuery script with a new one. There are no plans to make further changes to the CSS id's and classes. http://www.studiograsshopper.ch/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif

Not sure I fully understand question (b). Are you trying to use Cufon font replacement with the SlidePane heading?

Hi Ade,

yes, I used to replace the heading with Cufon. I am trying to do the same in the new version, but without success. Any idea what might be the problem? Is there any incompatibility that you might know of?
BTW, I really appreciate your ultra-fast responses and your dedicated support.
Once I have this thing solved, I'll be sure to make a small donation.

Best regards

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the nice words. Appreciated!

Actually, I've never looked closely at how Cufon works so, without digging into it in more detail, I can't see why it wouldn't work now if it worked with the old script. How are you implementing Cufon?
