Hi Ade,
I know my other thread is marked fixed yet I still don't understand how the DCG is working. You say my first post has an image inserted, but it does not. You also said that a Featured Image will not show up. So how is the image showing up when it is neither inserted nor featured?

Hi Dan,
Your initial problem was that you kept getting the Error Img for post #2 out of three that had been created. When I logged in to your site and went to Dashboard>Media>Library, I saw that the image you were expecting to see displayed in the DCG for post #2 had not been attached to post #2. I then attached the image to that post from within the Media Library screen and all was good…
I then investigated further and found that although you had uploaded the post #2 image and set it as the featured image for post #2, unless the image is actually inserted into the body of the post, it isn't in fact "attached".
Does this explain better?

Ignore my last message…
I've run a load of tests on my test server and see that images are attached to a post in the following circumstances:
1. Media Uploader run from Post Editor – whether Inserted into post or just added to the post's image gallery (ie saved without being Inserted)
2. Set Featured Image button is clicked and an image is uploaded.
Therefore, what I explained to you before was not quite correct! :-)
However, if you add an image directly to the Media Library (ie via Dashboard > Media > Library), an image can be uploaded without attaching it to a post.
Based on the above, the only explanation I can give is that, perhaps, the latter method is how you had added the image for your post #2? Certainly, when I viewed that image in your Media Library, it wasn't attached to any post.

I did upload images into the media library in order to simplify life for my client. I didn't know that the software tracked the actual act of uploading during the time of posting. I think I understand now.
An image inserted into a post via upload, or uploaded as Featured Image to a post will display in DCG.
Images inserted or set as featured post that are just picked from the media library [previously uploaded at a prior time] will not display in DCG.
Any way to fix this situation moving forward?

Hi Dan,
I don't there is anything to fix, as such. Attachments work as they do because of WP core code, and I can't see how else the DCG can associate images with posts other than looking at attachments.
Of course, there are changes I could make to the DCG such as using the Featured Image as both the main image and the thumbnail – but other users I have been in contact with are against this. This one will take more thought before I commit to it.
