1. Settings fields to apply padding to the gallery element itself. I put it above the post listing and it was touching the container below. I was able to add CSS to a child theme to get what I wanted.

Hi Michael, thanks for the comments. Glad you like the plugin.

I've tried to keep the Settings as simple as possible, and to allow as much flexibility across as many themes as possible. As you found out, it's easy to add a CSS rule to your theme stylesheet to deal with the padding/margins for the main gallery div.

2. I see that it puts in an image container for thumbnail, but I see no option to set it separately. It may not make a big difference, but then again, it may support more than 15 images if it didn't repeat the large image.

Not sure I quite follow you. The 15 image limit is simply to reduce the database query.

The biggest thing on my wishlist would be:

3. Addition of a Ken Burns effect. (I have the gallery area set to be 920x250 and few images come close to filling it.) I found someone who has a MooTools JS implementation of it, but I'm not confident in my ability to make sense of both packages and apply the functionality to yours. Here is the package:

http://www.electricprism.com/aeron/slideshow/

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Also, a "wish I knew then what I know now" tip: while I had it setup properly, I had

only the default posting in my WP installation so it wasn't showing

images. Although the error said that the fact that I had less than the 5

I had specified was ok, I found in the settings screen that there is

actually a minimum of 2 posts.

The minimum 2 images tip appears in the config guide, quick start guide and FAQ. Not sure what I can do to make to more clear. Anyway, your comment is noted and I'll see what I can do

<div class="imageElement"><!– DCG Image #1 –>
<h3>Aluminum Business Card</h3>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/67212010@N00/4729059335/&quot; title="Read More" class="open"></a>
<img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1349/4729059335_907…..0d1241.jpg&quot; alt="Aluminum Business Card" class="full" />

<img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1349/4729059335_907…..0d1241.jpg&quot; alt="Aluminum Business Card" class="thumbnail" />
</div>

In the code, it shows that it's including the same image twice, once for use as a thumbnail, once for use as the large image. I was suggesting that we have the option to include a second url for the thumbnail image. It would result in a request for a second image, but displaying it would consume less overhead and the thumbnail would likely display better if it was resized by an image editor rather than the browser.

Michael,

Thanks for your comments. Unfortunately, that's the way the script works.

I am more than happy with the DCG otherwise, but I would love to have the option to drag the photo/image from the WP's own post_thumbnail. It is easier for the not so tech savvy contributors to click the post thumbnail from the gallery than use the custom fields.

I am currently using the post thumbnails WP offers and they are working like a charm. So it would be a killer feature and would make the admins' life easier. Currently all posts sent for review require the regular review plus adding the image info into the custom fields manually from the post thumbnail part. :)

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. I am currently doing a major code re-write which will allow automatic inclusion of post attachments. Also, working on accessing the post thumbnails.

I went through several content slider/ featured post plugins and have decided to use yours based on several factors. I like the customization and overall appearance better than the others, so thanks for that! Really easy to set up, and I actually like the custom field boxes so I can pick which image I want displayed from my post. I also found that I like to enter in my own custom text for the teaser part.Great Job! If youre at all curious, you can check it out on my front page @ http://www.smartereurope.com I love how it makes my site look very professional.

Here are my suggestions (Not sure if this is your plugin or the js stuff, so sorry if its not in your control):

1. Option to have the "Featured Articles link" OUTSIDE of the window and always visible. Basically put it above or below the image of the featured posts. Some people have commented on my site that they didnt even know that the Feature Articles was a link to see all the rotating posts.

2. The ability to choose the featured articles thumbnail. If you look at my site, the image with the cross appears all black in the thumbnail because it is only showing a part of the pic that is actually black. Not a huge deal, just wondering if it can be modified at all.

Thanks again!

@ smartereurope

Hi, thanks for the suggestions.

1. No plans to do this – most people seem to want the carousel tab within the body of the DCG. You could add more text to this button though, eg "Click here to see more" kind of thing.

2. The next version (to be released shortly) will handle thumbnails differently (using WP's built-in Post Thumbnails system, therefore a "complete" thumbnail will be shown in the carousel.

If this feature hasn't already been included, it would be nice to have the option to select automatic image resizing (so that the image that is called from the page/post is automatically resized to fit the size of the DCG box). Currently the gallery just pulls the image from the page/post as is, and if it's a thumbnail, it looks really odd in a box that is 450px wide…

I've searched around to see if this feature is already an option for DCG and maybe I just overlooked it, but I haven't been able to locate any info.

Thanks,

Rachel,

Thanks for your comments. No, there's no automatic resizing available, nor is it planned. The next version of the plugin allow you to populate the DCG automatically using post Image Attachments. You will still need to upload the image at the correct size first though.

Hi Ade,

Long time no speak! Hope all is well. Your plugin has served FLAWLESSLY for 6 months now at lifeasahuman.com . Great job Ade!

Just wanted to add my vote for a random function. That would be awesome.

And a question.

If DCG grabs the first image in a post (which would also be great), will it scale it to fit the DCG plugin settings? IE .. if the first image is 800 x 600 and the DCG settings are 500 x 260 , will it scale to that setting?

Thanks and cheers,
Gil

I was wondering if there's any way currently, (or a feature planned in the future) to make it so that the images and links in DCG open in new tabs or windows (essentially, a functional target="_blank" feature), rather than in the same page? I would be really happy to see a feature like this, or if someone could explain to me how to do it, I would be grateful as well.

Love this plugin by the way, really useful.

Hi Gil,

Thanks for the nice words! Smile

No, the new feature won't automatically resize, though you could force it with CSS. An idea I'm looking at is the ability to create a custom image size, user definable, to allow the automatic creation of a suitable size image when using the Media Uploader. Watch this space! Smile

Unfortunately no, this is not possible, thanks to the way the script works.

Hi there,

I've just started to use your plugin today and i'm very happy with it. Thanks for the great plugin!

The only one thing I want to suggest for a new version is the option to choose color and capacity for the slide pane showing post/page title and description, color for the carousel and the gallery background also. Still now there's only black and black is not very cool for a bright-tone website, you know what i mean :D

Great plugin with great color will be the best! Thank you! http://www.studiograsshopper.ch/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-cool.gif

-Edit- : I just think of customizing the width of the gallery box, can the unit "%" be given to the width? For ex 100% for fluid layout? Thanks.

@ Kazna,

Thanks for the suggestions.

Colours – You know you can do this with CSS?
Unit – there's much more to getting the DCG to work in a fluid layout than this.

Can I suggest you make a quick 3.4 release that fixes all the bugs in 3.3? Forget adding new features. The previous version was working flawlessly, since upgrading to 3.3 I've had loads of problems. Keep all the good stuff for 3.5, just get a stable release out!

Working on it…. By the way, there's only one confirmed bug, the Error 20 issue.

Since WordPress already has an excerpt text box for each post, would it be possible to make another option in the DCG "descriptions" tab to display the_excerpt(), as opposed to the_content()? I've been copying everything in the excerpt text boxes to DCG metaboxes, so the excerpt option would make things a lot easier.

And, just to let you know… I've downloaded and installed over 10 slideshow plugins, and yours is the best! Your code is organized very well too (I was going to just modify your plugin for my own use, but I thought that others would also benefit from my suggestion).
