Is there a way to force the images to fit to the slider (I've got some showing too small and some it only shows half the image)? Thanks!

Not really. The images are loaded as background images in the gallery. For best results, size all your images to match the gallery (or at least be smaller – that way they will at least display centered in the gallery when using mootools).
Quite a good way to do this is to set up a custom intermediate image size in WP's Media options and always use the URL to this sized image in the DCG metabox Image URL field.

Go to Dashboard>Settings>Media and set the Medium image size to match your gallery size. Then, whenever you upload an image via the Media Uploader, the Medium image size will be ready for use in the DCG. Does that make sense?
