Hello,
I set my slideshow to display 6 slides, but if I publish a new post and exclude it from the slideshow, one of the 6 slides dissapears…
I have a dozen or so categories, only some of which deserve to be displayed in the slideshow, but its really on an as needed basis that I determine which ones to exclude.
How can I avoid this from happening?
Thanks,
C.

OfflineHi,
Not sure I follow you exactly…
Assuming you are using One Catgeory method set to, say, 5 posts, and you exclude one of these posts via the Exclude box in the DCG metabox (in Post Editor), you will only see 4 posts in the gallery.
If you want a mix of categories, use multi-option gallery method.

Hello,
Yes I am using the multi-option gallery method already.
The thing is that assuming you want the top 5 stories in your slideshow, doesn't mean excluding the newest post from the slideshow should reduce the total number of slides.
If we define 5 slides in the settings, it should always show 5 slides that were approved to show in the slideshow. Otherwise, for larger publications, the slideshow could disappear completely with this current method.
For example, if I publish 25 new posts and define the last 5 as "do not show on slideshow" then my slideshow will be empty even though I have an other 20 new posts that could have shown on it.
So in my opinion this plugin should always catch the last X posts that were approved for slideshow display.
Can you help me out with this?
Thanks,
C.

OfflineThe exclude option is really aimed at the One Category method rather than Multi Option, and was never designed to be anything other than an easy way to exlude one or two posts. Also, you need to realise that the exclude is determined after the posts have been pulled from the database – therefore if you set One Category to pull 5 posts and you exclude the latest 5 posts, the gallery will be empty. The exclusion also works in the same way with Multi Option, ie after the post has been pulled from the db.
The most reliable way to ensure inclusion/exclusion is to use a "Featured" category and only assign relevant posts to this category, and forget about the Exclude option altogether.
