Hi … i'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to get default images to associate with posts. The website is http://www.parafoilkites.net.
I've been working on this for three days and am really frustrated. I've tried to use both the multi-option and one-category options. I have renamed all of the images as 1.jpg etc. and according to the media gallery they are all in a folder called http://parafoilkites.net/wp-content/uploads/6.jpg where 6.jpg is a file in that folder. There are other images in that folder as well. I don't know how to create a seperate folder in the gallery so maybe that's the problem.
When I place a "featured image" into the post it works fine. Otherwise it's making no sense to me.
Now, here's what I'm trying to do. As I put new posts into my site, I don't want to assign a "featured image" to the post. Instead I would like a gallery image that's associated with the category of the post to automatically display. Additionally, it would be nice if a thumbnail could automatically be assigned as well.
The idea is to get a set of images related to a post to automatically and randomly assign themselves to a post. Got any ideas?

OfflineHi,
What DCG SEttings > Image Management options are you using?

OfflineYou need to select the Multi Option gallery method, then use a Post Select value of 1 for each of the categories selected. (This makes sure that the gallery pulls the latest post from each category.)
Create your default images, 1.jpg for the category which has an ID of 1, 2.jpg for the category that has an ID of 2, etc. Put these images in a folder on your server, then enter the URL to this folder in the "URL to default 'Category' images folder" box.
Finally, select Full URL in the Image Management options.
Providing that you DON'T enter an image URL in the DCG metabox for these posts, the default images will display.
Makes sense?

Well. It makes sense but when I do what you say, i'm still having problems. Here's a link to sample screen images for image 4 …. which is generating the ERROR block.

OfflinePlease note that this is a FREE plugin and the support is given in my FREE time. Therefore, although I try my best to respond quickly to support questions, it is not always possible.
You haven't set up the Load Scripts options correctly, or you haven't added the template tag to your theme file correctly. Please read the Configuration Guide.

I understand the free time stuff. Sorry, but you'd given such superlative support on the first few rounds of questions that I got spoiled …. or thought the bulletin board wasn't working right. Sorry.
If and when I get this working, I'd like to donate. You've obviously put a lot of work into the plug-in

OfflineOk, no worries. I just get a little frustrated when people appear to forget that (a) thsi is a one man show and (b) it's all done in my free time.
Anyway, did you look at the way you have added the template tag to your theme and also whether you have set the Load Scripts option correctly?
12:03 am
well … the load scripts option is set to Home Page only, which I believe is correct.
I'm not extremely technical about this stuff and when I did the plug-in installation after buying the Genesis+Lifestyle theme, I just followed the instructions. Do I actually have to cut and paste this into one of the pages of the theme?
From reading the configuration guide it appears that the code gets placed depending on where you want the gallery to display. My default is home page and I
looked at the home.php html in the WordPress editor and it looks like what's needed is already there:
this is the start of the home page script
SO …. here is one potential problem that I want to mention. The media directory that has the 1.jpg, 2.jpg images in it ALSO has other images in the directory. Could this be causing the problem? Is it possible that when you pull the image from the directory to place in the gallery if there are images named other than 1.jpg …. 9.jpg in that directory an error occurs?

OfflineOk, "Home" is correct for the Load Scripts option.
With Genesis + Lifestyle, no, you don't have to add any code to home.php – it's already coded.
Anyway, looking at your site right now, the DCG is now working – so the above 2 issues are now sorted/not relevant.
That leaves the issue with posts #1, #4, #5 and #6. If you look at your Page Source you will see that post #2 is correctly displaying your default image 6.jpg. Check that the default images for the other posts (assuming they are different categories) are in the same location as 6.jpg.
No, it doesn't matter if other images are in the same folder. The DCG looks for a specifically named image, not just any image in a particular folder.
