Hi – I've seen this being asked around on some posts on the blog, but I have not found a clear answer yet in the docs or the forum. Regarding the ability to automatically map images via custom fields in posts, does that still exist? Specifically, if using an auto poster, in the old version we could map an image to the dfcg-image field but it looks like that went away in v3.2 with the new hidden custom fields.
With the current version, I have to go into each posts dcg meta box and add the image url manually. I use images from external urls and I would like to do this automatically when a new post is created, so essentially mapping the image url on the fly.
Is there a way to do this with the current version of DCG?

OfflineRob,
The DCG still uses custom fields, but they are named slightly differently since 3.2. So, dfcg-image is now _dfcg-image, and dfcg-desc is now _dfcg-desc. Therefore, you can easily access these custom fields with your own code.

Thanks- I remembered reading about it but I haven't tried referencing it in code. When I tried testing the new named custom fields by manually adding the _dfcg-image to the post custom field area, it didn't work. So I assumed that functionality was no longer supported.
Also, would those custom fields support images from external URL's?

OfflineRob,
The underscore at the beginning of the custom field name means that it is hidden and Wordpress won't display it in the Custom Fields box in the Post Editor. So, you can add a custom field like that, but you will only be able to edit the custom field via the DCG metabox. Does this make sense?
Re External URLs – yes, you can use external image URLs. Just make sure you select Full URL option in the DCG Settings > Image Management tab.
